5 days old

Lauren,

You’ve been doing so well so far. You’re a bit fussy at times, but we’ve managed and you’ve adjusted. Right now I’m watching you get burped by Nana and you’re looking at me type. So much has happened…where do I begin?
First we’ll start off with your birth. At the time I posted “We’re starting to push” at 1:03am, obviously, we started to push. The two nurses were instructing Mommy on how and when to “practice” push to help you move lower. When a contraction came along, I’d help by grabbing one of mommy’s legs and Mommy would take a breath and push with all her might. About 5-7 practice pushes in, our doctor stepped in. She checked where you were and noticed you were VERY near. Another contraction came along and Mommy pushed some more. At that time, we could then start to see your head…and yet the doctor wasn’t gloved up and ready for you! “Okay, Amanda, stop pushing. Don’t laugh, don’t sneeze, and don’t cough,” said one of the nurses as I watched your head start to slowly come into the world while the nurses scrambled to get things ready for you. “Here she comes,” is what I said as I continued to hold Mommy’s leg while seeing your head start to come out. The nurses and doctor were finally ready and with one good push, Mommy pushed you all the way out. The doctor pulled you out, cleaned your nose out, placed you in a towel and placed you on Mommy’s chest. The doctor got everything set up so I could cut the cord. Afterwards, you got cleaned up, got your footprints done and weighed/measured you. You came out at 6lbs 10oz and 19 1/4in. We were both SO excited to see you. Your Aunt Boogie was there and took lots of pictures and videos after you came out.

After getting Mommy all sown up, and you all cleaned off, I went to tell Nana and Ms Linden that you were here. They were both SUPER excited, although they already kinda knew you were here because in the lobby where they were, around the time you were born they heard a lullaby on the intercom, letting everyone know that a baby was born. They gathered their belongings and joined me in the labor and delivery room to take turns holding you.

After you were born, you immediately latched on and had no problem learning to eat. You were so awake, you didn’t sleep until around noon (almost 10hr after birth). We stayed at the hospital until around 3pm on October 3. We got you all setup in your car seat and took you home to where Mommy and Daddy could get all the rest we missed with you needing to feed every 2 hours during the previous night.

While we were in our postpartum room, we got a HUGE surprise. Of course, you already knew that Nana was in town for your arrival, but Great Aunt Genevia and Great Aunt Loretta drove all the way from Oklahoma to see you too!!! That was a HUGE surprise for Mommy and Daddy. We both had no idea we’d be seeing them and it was a wonderful surprise. They not only blessed us with their presence, but they came bearing gifts for you and us.

Your Nana and Great Aunts didn’t stop there…they brought Mommy and Daddy a safe car. Our previous car was a 1 door (a coupe with a broken passenger door), with no A/C, a broken door handle on the driver side (I’d have to open the door from the outside to get out), cracked windshield, not-too-bright headlights, deteriorating leather seats from the heat/sun, seatbelts that don’t retract, a missing fender, and leaks oil. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, lol. What your Great Aunts brought from Oklahoma was a great 2008 Mazda 6 with 4 doors, cool A/C, and so many safety features!  Amanda and I were blown away by everyone helping us carry our new “precious cargo”.  Mommy and Daddy are SO happy to have this new car to not worry about your safety, you won’t have to sweat in the sun, and all of us can get out of the car through our own door, lol.  It’s such a relief and such a blessing!

Since then, you’ve had 2 trips. We took you Jake and Melissa’s house on October 4 (they’re our neighbors who we’ve met through church, are great friends, and are pregnant and due ANY DAY!). We put you in the car sear and walked to their house (it’s not too far). Mommy did great with walking and like we experienced in the car ride from the hospital, you like being on the move. You didn’t cry or fuss the whole walk to their house. Once there, you showed them how small and cute you were. Melissa held you while you held Jake’s finger (you really wouldn’t let go). You took your second trip the following night (Oct 5) to Mommy and Daddy’s small group at Tori and Austin’s house. You actually got to get back in the car (which you loved).

One thing that I have to tell you is that when you’re a few months older, I’m going to let you play with my iPod Touch.  I already have a bunch of Dr. Seuss books ready to be read to you all by itself.  I’m already tracking every time you feed and use the bathroom in your diaper on the apps that Apple has.  Below is a picture of you staring at the iPod Touch as it reads How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  We only got a couple minutes in…it’s not Christmas time yet, so you’ll see it later.

We’re going to try and have you sleep in your pack ‘n play bed tonight in our bedroom.  Before I go, here’s some more cute pictures of you.  MUAH!  Goodnight, cutie!
